Baby2Home Research

Why is Baby2Home Important?

Baby2Home is important because parents are at increased risk for mental health challenges during the perinatal period, making timely support critical for both parental and infant well-being. At the same time, parents are increasingly turning to pregnancy and parenting apps for information and guidance, demonstrating strong engagement with digital support tools. Despite this growing reliance on technology, little is known about the effectiveness of perinatal mental health apps, particularly for first-time parents.

Grounded in the perinatal collaborative care model, we developed Baby2Home and evaluated it in a randomized controlled trial funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Perinatal Collaborative Care Model

Perinatal Collaborative Care is a team-based approach that integrates mental health care, parenting support, and clinical coordination to support parents and babies during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It brings together care managers, clinicians, and digital tools to provide proactive, personalized, and continuous support for families. See more details here

Clinical Research & Evidence

In an NIH-funded research study, we developed Baby2Home (B2H) using a human-centered design approach and evaluated the effects of B2H through a real-world field trial.
We aimed to examine the effects of Baby2Home on: Preventive healthcare utilization, including postpartum visit, contraception use, depression screening, vaccine uptake, well-child visit attendance, and breastfeeding. Patient-reported outcome (PRO) trajectories, with a focus on mental health outcomes such as streess, depression, anxiety, self-efficacy and relationship health.
We conducted a multi-center, randomized controlled trial involving 640 families who were randomized to either usual care or the Baby2Home intervention.
Our analysis demonstrated promising and meaningful outcomes. We look forward to sharing detailed results and evidence at scientific conferences and journals beginning in February 2026.
